Patricia Brioux

Patricia Brioux is not a New York Times, Amazon Top 100, or a USA Today bestselling author, but she is the daughter of two rock-star parents, the youngest of six kids, and the FUN aunt to eight crazy little kiddos who just love to keep her on her toes.

Her love is reading, her passion is writing, and her hope lies in inspiring as many humans as she possibly can. She loves life, lives everyday to her fullest and can’t get enough of her two favourite things in this world: Christmas and ice cream!

My sister-in-law Trace actually. She is a huge advocate for promoting self-worth. I can’t even explain what kind of human being she is; you’ll have to check her out. You can find her on her website at resetbreathe.com, her podcast The reset: Breathe Show, her facebook Reset:breathe fitness, or even on instagram at resetbreathe. She is honestly one of the most inspiring people I have ever had the pleasure to meet and privileged enough to call family. I don’t really know what to say about her. She truthfully just wants people to be the best versions of themselves, whatever that may look like. She has built this community that is beyond safe where race, size, age, gender, class, and religion has never played a factor into defining one’s self-worth.

That’s not saying she doesn’t recognize the struggles people go through, because she does, but she has so much faith that anyone, with the right tools, can always rise above. I think my favourite thing about her class is that at the end of each session she recites three positive affirmations about herself. She generally invites us to repeat them along with her but also encourages us to make our own. That class was the first time I ever said I am awesome!

Simple. That they are Awesome. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.

I would say the wide range of diversity depicted throughout the illustrations. I wanted this book to be inclusive and by choosing characters from different socio-economic backgrounds and of all different races, ages, genders, sizes and sexuality, I believe I was able to establish a voice for a lot of different people.

Hugely! I am an aunt to eight little kiddos and I want them to be confident in who they are. I want them to know that dreams, with a little bit of luck and a lot of hard work, can come true. I want them to know that they are powerful, they are smart, they are brave, and that they can do anything they set their mind on. I want them to be free of themselves and free of the biases that society will place on them. I want them to respect the choices and beliefs of the other people they will undoubtedly run into and most of all, I want them to know that I will always have their back!

Life is already hard. Don’t make it harder by letting opinions of others affect your self-worth. You are beautiful just the way god intended you to be.

I think we are living in a climate that is ready for change – The Me Too Movement and The Black Lives Matter Movement proves just that – and so with my book, I really tried to focus as much as I could to bring diversity into each illustration. You will see this if you buy the book.
